he's stupid but he gets the job done. from slateport, to lilycove, tufts of spiked hair are always prepared to make themselves present; no matter how loud and clear they must be to do so. seemingly coming out of the shadows of hoenn itself, cal's reputation progressed rather slowly, due to his wits. a brash, reckless young man with nothing on him other than his distasteful tongue to keep him alive? well — hoenn had enough of those. all much more experienced than cal, too, making his act nothing more than just a simple sideshow. it took months to get himself even moderately known, and still requires more in the present for him to pass as anything other than a glorified delinquent. [break][break] he has a tiny group of dedicated goons: within various ages, most likely pulled towards him thanks to his behaviour and peculiar aptitude when it involves surviving nearly penniless and without a real name. they do all the petty work that nobody wants to do — collect debts from cowardly gamblers, fight whichever person provokes them for the money, and guard whatever sketchy trade that needs a quick (and cheap) hired arms. some call cal an impulsive punk, others a man who you should avoid their piercing stare. [break][break] that was what made calvin too perfect for the rockets.
[break][break] smart enough to carry his own weight, but not enough to be called a threat within the system. team rocket did not need to make themselves appear absent when there were other bothersome rebels to worry about. cal wasn't ready to bow down to the mafia who debased his own kin, however, he wasn't equipped enough to be a true leader nor had he ever wanted the old remnants of the group to ever return. maybe he wasn't going to be exactly what he hated most, but, he would shake hands with evil just this once. after all, it was being a hero that put him in the situation he was in now. [break][break] so, cal chooses to bite. his little 'friend' circle would all put their allegiance to rocket instead, doing what they've always done except being more than what meets the surface. cal merely follows any order that the higher-ups command him to do, considering his confidence mainly relies on his strength and muscle. if his juvenile lifestyle needs to intertwine or intervene to keep prying eyes off of his faction, then so be it. he's getting compensated enough by trainers who more so know what they're doing and it isn't as if his mind is set on anything serious, anyway. cal is cal — a thug. a menace. chasing any fire that feels the hottest. he hasn't stopped his way of doing things before and he certainly wouldn't now. [break][break] others can't help but wonder about the rumours they hear, though. relating to the figure who stops and lingers around the gyms of the cities, or the smile they swear they see leaving a daycare. perhaps there is more to calvin's story. perhaps there has always been, beyond the narrative of some loud-mouthed individual suddenly walking the streets of hoenn. [break][break] but none of that should matter anymore, right? he's just another street thug with a hunger for power and money. and that's who he always will be, no matter what.
